This month has begun with a bang…actually last month ended with a bang. My dearest nephew turned 9 – he is the absolutely coolest 9 year old ,that I know! I can still remember the day he was born. I was coming back home from a 17 day induction program in Delhi, for my first job and as I stepped out of the train – my mother informed me that this tiny little guy was born and they had given him the name, I had chosen. It feels like I’m waxing sentiment here, but this is a kid who spent his savings getting his aunt(me) a pair of winter gloves because I had lost my earlier pair – and he was just six years old when that happened. I tear up, every time I think of that. His birthday was at the end of last month’s and he is now a BIG boy teetering close to the brink of teenage rebellion. Well, that was last month big bang….
This month has begun with one of my travel pieces getting published in a leading national daily newspaper!! I wrote a piece for them on my Bali trip and it got published. The editor of the paper, saw my photographs and suggested I do a piece and I did. When it came out, the size and magnitude of it blew me away. I got a double spread with four of my photographs! Huge thanks to the editor, whom I have known for a few years now – a man whose brain I have literally chewed and spit out, whenever I had an existential crisis about ‘following my passion’! I never wanted to make “use” of him, but as someone said to me a couple of days ago – sometimes we all need a fairy godfather in our lives and he is definitely mine. If you read this, you know who you are – thank you from the bottom of my heart. So here is the piece as it appeared in the paper and here is the link to the online version of the paper.
